The Royal Oman Police has issued a public warning about online scams, urging people to remain vigilant when receiving suspicious requests through digital platforms. The advisory highlights the importance of protecting personal information and avoiding actions that could expose individuals to cyber fraud. As online communication becomes a regular part of everyday life, scammers may attempt to exploit people's trust through messages, calls or other digital interactions. Staying cautious and checking unexpected requests before responding can help reduce the risk of fraud.
The police have urged the public not to disclose sensitive personal information to unknown individuals or unverified contacts. Such information may include account details and other private data that could be misused if it falls into the wrong hands. People should be especially careful when someone unexpectedly asks for personal details, account access or information that should remain confidential. A request that appears urgent or convincing should not be treated as genuine without verification.

The advisory also stresses the importance of keeping verification codes private. These codes are often used to confirm identities, log in to accounts or authorise certain transactions and account-related actions. Sharing a verification code with another person could allow them to access an account or complete an action without the account owner's permission. People should never disclose one-time passwords or security codes to unknown callers, suspicious contacts or anyone claiming to represent a service without proper verification.
The Royal Oman Police has also urged people to remain cautious of suspicious requests made during video calls. Scammers may use digital communication to create a sense of trust or pressure people into revealing confidential information. People should be wary of anyone asking them to disclose security codes, share sensitive details or follow unusual instructions during a call. If a request seems suspicious, they should end the interaction and verify the person's identity through an official and trusted channel.
People can reduce their exposure to online scams by using strong, unique passwords, enabling additional account security where available and keeping their devices and applications updated. They should also avoid opening suspicious links or downloading unexpected files from unknown contacts. It is important to verify unusual requests independently rather than relying on the phone number, profile or contact details provided by the person making the request. If someone claims to represent a bank, government agency or company, contact that organisation through its official website or verified customer service channel.
Anyone who encounters a suspicious message, call or online request should avoid sharing information or transferring money until the situation has been checked. Keeping relevant messages and other evidence may also help when reporting a suspected scam to the appropriate authorities. The Royal Oman Police warning underlines the importance of public awareness in preventing cyber fraud. By protecting personal information, keeping verification codes confidential and carefully checking unexpected requests, people can take practical steps to improve their online safety.
