Egypt’s armed forces have conducted a major military exercise involving air force units, artillery, armoured and mechanized forces, armed helicopters, paratroopers and commandos. The exercise focused on simulated offensive operations and tested the forces’ ability to carry out assigned missions under changing operational conditions.
The exercise was attended by Chief of Staff Ahmed Khalifa, commanders of the armed forces’ main branches and other senior military commanders.
The main phase of the exercise featured simulated offensive operations involving several military units working together to achieve their objectives.
Air force units carried out reconnaissance, protection and support missions. Artillery units conducted firing operations aimed at suppressing and destroying enemy defences.
Meanwhile, armoured and mechanized forces advanced towards opposing positions, carrying out operations to breach enemy defences and engage opposing forces. Armed helicopters provided support during these operations.
Special forces personnel from the paratroopers and commandos also took part in the exercise. They carried out airborne insertion and raid operations targeting identified objectives.
Major General Mohamed Youssef Assaf, commander of the Second Field Army, said the armed forces’ General Command was providing support to help the army achieve high levels of combat efficiency and readiness.
He said the support was intended to strengthen the army’s ability to carry out its assigned missions.
At the end of the exercise, Zaher conveyed greetings and appreciation from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to military personnel for their efforts in performing their duties under different conditions.
He also congratulated them on the 53rd anniversary of Egypt’s victory in the October 1973 War.
Zaher praised the forces’ performance during the exercise, saying it demonstrated their high level of readiness to protect Egypt’s national interests and sovereignty.
He also held discussions with the participating commanders and officers about how they had carried out their assigned missions and made decisions as operational conditions changed.
Separately, Chief of Staff Ahmed Khalifa attended the preparatory procedures for the exercise and observed one of its training phases.
He also discussed operational performance and decision-making with the commanders and officers who participated in the exercise.
The exercise brought together different branches and specialised units of Egypt’s armed forces to carry out coordinated simulated operations and assess their readiness to respond to changing conditions.
