Wesley Hunt Nominated as US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia
US President Donald Trump has nominated Texas Republican Congressman Wesley Hunt to become the next United States ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The nomination was announced on September 14, 2026, as Washington seeks to fill the ambassadorial post in Riyadh, which has remained vacant since the beginning of Trump's second term.
Senate Approval Still Required
Hunt has been nominated but has not yet become the US ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Under the US appointment process, an ambassadorial nominee must receive Senate confirmation before formally taking up the position. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee lists ambassadorial nominations as part of the confirmation process before consideration by the full Senate.

Wesley Hunt is a Republican member of the US House of Representatives from Texas and a former US Army officer. Reuters reports that Hunt served in the military and had previous experience in both Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Hunt has previously served in Saudi Arabia as a diplomatic liaison officer. His regional experience is therefore expected to be relevant to his proposed diplomatic role, particularly as Washington and Riyadh continue to cooperate on security, economic and regional matters.
