Singapore, October 13, 2026: The US dollar remained stable near an 18-month high at the start of Asian trading on Tuesday. Investors continued to assess geopolitical uncertainty and awaited economic data that could provide fresh indications about the future direction of US Federal Reserve interest rates. Trading activity was relatively quiet following a holiday in some US markets.
The US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, stood at 102.56 points during Asian trading. It had closed the previous session approximately 0.3 per cent higher. According to the Oman News Agency report, the dollar continued to trade near its highest levels since April 2025.
Higher energy costs and rising yields on US Treasury securities have recently supported the dollar against major international currencies. Meanwhile, turmoil in the French bond market has weighed on the euro. These developments have contributed to changing investor preferences as financial markets respond to economic and geopolitical uncertainty.

The euro traded at $1.1159, while the British pound remained unchanged at $1.3209. The dollar edged down approximately 0.1 per cent against the Japanese yen to 158.435 yen. These movements reflected mixed performance among major currencies during the Asian trading session.
The offshore Chinese yuan remained steady at 6.6950 against the US dollar, trading near its strongest level in four years, according to the report. The yuan's performance contrasted with weakness in several other currencies, highlighting differences in market conditions across major economies.
The Australian dollar declined 0.1 per cent to $0.6956, while the New Zealand dollar also fell 0.1 per cent to $0.5582. The New Zealand currency traded close to its lowest level in 18 months. Investors continued to monitor global economic developments and shifts in market expectations.
Currency markets are watching upcoming US economic indicators for clues about inflation, economic growth and the Federal Reserve's future interest rate decisions. Geopolitical uncertainty, energy prices and government bond yields may continue to influence demand for the dollar and other major currencies. The reported exchange rates reflect conditions during the trading period covered by the Oman News Agency report and may change as markets develop.
