Dubai Mourns Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Sheikh Ahmed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Dies

Dubai is mourning the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Ahmed passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Dubai Announces Official Mourning

Following his death, the Dubai Ruler’s Court announced a 10-day period of official mourning across the emirate. Flags are being flown at half-mast during the mourning period.

Funeral Prayer Held at Zabeel Grand Mosque

Funeral prayers for Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum were held at the Grand Zabeel Mosque in Dubai on Tuesday, September 22. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum performed the funeral prayer for his brother, accompanied by senior members of the Dubai ruling family.

Sheikh Ahmed Laid to Rest in Dubai

Following the funeral prayer, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was laid to rest at Umm Hurair Cemetery in Dubai. Members of the ruling family, officials and citizens attended the funeral proceedings.

UAE Leaders Offer Condolences

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and rulers and senior members of the UAE ruling families offered condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Al Maktoum family. Condolences were also received by members of the Dubai ruling family at Zabeel.

Condolence Messages Continue

Messages of sympathy have also come from leaders outside the UAE. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the royal family and the people of Dubai, while Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also conveyed his sympathies to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the Al Maktoum family.

Dubai Continues Mourning

The official mourning period and condolence gatherings reflect the continued public response to Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s passing. Sheikh Ahmed was a member of Dubai’s ruling Al Maktoum family, and condolences continue to be offered to his family and loved ones.
